  • Job Description

     Our CETUS division is seeking a talented and enthusiastic mechanical engineer with strong design ability and hands-on experience with R&D projects. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for design, implementation, deployment and testing of both hardware and software for prototype autonomous maritime systems.


    At Metron, we value innovation, inquisitiveness and insight. You will work on the design, development, and management of mechanical and electromechanical systems for unmanned underwater vehicles.  In small, dynamic hardware/software teams, you will provide concept design, detailed design, and work to implement a range of mission capabilities.


    In this position, we are looking for someone who can, when required, provide on-site support during integration and unmanned vehicle testing.  You should be comfortable in a general shop and be able to rapidly implement hardware solutions as well as function in a marine environment.  You will independently manage prototype development and testing iterations.  Additionally, you will write feasibility/cost analysis and technical reports.

    Desired Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture required, MS preferred
    • 0-3 years of experience in mechanical design (more senior candidates will also be considered)
    • Proficiency in Solidworks, engineering drawing standards, and GD&T
    • Working knowledge of materials, fabrication and assembly
    • Experience with automation mechanisms (electric actuators, hydraulic systems etc.)
    • Experience in marine environments preferred, formal training or experience in marine engineering
    • Experience designing pressure vessel and oil filled, pressure balanced housings
    • Experience performing structural FEA and thermal analysis
    • Familiarity with hydrostatics, stability, and weight analysis
    • Experience in R&D environments and with rapid prototyping
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Some travel may be required
    • US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED, active DoD clearance a plus
