Job Description

Our CETUS division is seeking a talented and enthusiastic design engineer with strong design ability and hands-on experience with R&D projects. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for design, implementation, deployment and testing of both hardware and software for prototype autonomous systems.

 

At Metron, we value innovation, inquisitiveness and insight. You will work on the design, development, and management of electromechanical systems for unmanned underwater vehicles.  In small, dynamic hardware/software teams, you will provide concept design, detailed design, and work to implement a range of mission capabilities.

 

In this position, we are looking for someone who can, when required, provide on-site support during integration and unmanned vehicle testing.  You should be comfortable in a general shop and be able to rapidly implement hardware solutions as well as function in a marine environment.  You will independently manage prototype development and testing iterations.  Additionally, you will write feasibility/cost analysis and technical reports.

Desired Qualifications

  • BS (MS preferred) in marine engineering, ocean engineering, or naval architecture.  Candidates with mechanical engineering degree but with significant course work in the area of ocean engineering may also be considered.
  • 1-5 years of relevant professional work experience
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and simulation (Solidworks preferred), engineering drawing standards, and GD&T
  • Working knowledge of material properties, fabrication practices, and assembly techniques
  • Experience with externally loaded pressure vessel design is desirable
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics, such as for the purposes of air foil analysis and selection preferable
  • Familiarity with ocean dynamics and wave induced forces preferable
  • Familiarity with maritime power systems and engine-propeller matching preferable
  • Familiarity with maritime operations preferable
  • Experience with maritime vehicle design is a significant plus
  • Sound understanding of mechanics of materials and structural analysis a must
  • Candidate must be capable of setting up, running, and interpreting results of own FEAs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Some travel may be required
  • US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED, active DoD clearance a plus.  Must be capable of obtaining a clearance.
